A gameplay trailer that shows off the various mechanics of the 2D platformer, Celeste.
A gameplay trailer that focuses on three things,
Game capture, video editing, sound design done by me.
Celeste was the subject of this trailer because I enjoyed playing through the game when it came out and the game's genre and perspective were unique compared to the other games I made trailers for. I wanted to highlight what made this 2D platformer different from games such as Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country and Ori and the Blind Forest while having the story of the game take a backseat this time. Sort of the opposite of my Batman Arkham Knight Trailer which focused on story rather than gameplay.
Creating a trailer for the game was fun as I got to play with all the fun mechanics the game had, but was challenging in its own right. Analyzing trailers for games similar to Celeste helped me better understand how to cut my own trailer. Royalty-free music never sounded good when cutting this trailer, so I cut to Lena Raine’s original OST for the game instead. Transitioning between clips was fun but jarring to watch, so I had to cap multiple pick-ups to make it just right.
Overall, the video was fun to create and increases the variety of trailers I've made so far. I had difficulty pacing this video as I was cramming as many different mechanics into the video as possible. I learned to pace the video out better with the help of some friends, which I greatly appreciated. Another gripe I have with the video is the music transition towards the end of the video. It is definitely not as smooth as I would've liked, but I don't have the know-how to fix it. I'll have to study up and practice some other time.
